Sip a cocktail and learn about local history at the Washington County Historical Society! Join us on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, as local historian Mark Brugh presents "Jacob Miller's Carriage Step Often Identified as the Old Slave Block," a talk exploring the history of a local Sharpsburg landmark and the events surrounding it. Local historian Mark Brugh will explore the history of Sharpsburg's "slave block," from its time as a carriage step belonging to Jacob Miller, a prominent Sharpsburg businessman and farmer, to its designation as a "slave block" and its ties to events before and after the Civil War! Brugh's presentation, gathered from years of dedicated research, includes fascinating primary source documents. Culture & Cocktails is generously sponsored by the James & Mary Schurz Foundation. C&C is held on the second Friday of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Refreshments and one complimentary drink ticket are included with each ticket.
