Culture & Cocktails: Mary Mish & the Restoration of the Hager House
Explore the restoration of the Hager House, championed by WCHS President Mary Vernon Mish during the 1950s! Join us on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 PM, as Kay Osmer presents, "Mary Mish & the Restoration of the Hager House." Kay Osmer, Recreation Assistant for the City of Hagerstown, will explore this topic during Maryland Archaeology Month! Discover the efforts of historic preservationist Mary Vernon Mish and the Washington County Historical Society to preserve and restore the Jonathan Hager House in City Park. Mary Vernon Mish served as the first female president of the WCHS from 1942 to 1949. See historic before and after photos of the house's restoration and explore the house's architecture. Please, learn about the historic archaeological dig conducted during the 1950s! Culture & Cocktails is generously sponsored by the James & Mary Schurz Foundation. C&C is held on the second Friday of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Refreshments and one complimentary drink ticket are included with each ticket. This month's cocktail will be a classic 1950s cocktail, to be announced! Washington County Roots 2026 Fundraiser: Dan Spedden
For fans of the popular program “Who Do You Think You Are?” join genealogy researchers Carol Miller-Schultz and Jean Conte for an exciting presentation as they dig up the history of CVB President Dan Spedden's ancestry. This will be an evening of food, drinks, and exploring genealogical roots! Washington County Roots is a kinship Family Heritage Research Center fundraiser, which supports the ongoing preservation of Washington County's family histories. The kinship Family Heritage Research Center, located in the Miller House Museum at 135 W Washington Street, serves genealogical researchers from across the country. Your support through attending this event allows our staff and volunteers to connect families from across the country to their roots.
