DESCRIPTION:Sip a cocktail and learn about local history at the Washington County Historical Society! \n\n\n\nJoin us on Friday\, May 8\, 2026\, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM\, as local historian Mark Brugh presents “Jacob Miller’s Carriage Step Often Identified as the Old Slave Block\,” a talk exploring the history of a local Sharpsburg landmark and the events surrounding it. \n\n\n\nLocal historian Mark Brugh will explore the history of Sharpsburg’s “slave block\,” from its time as a carriage step belonging to Jacob Miller\, a prominent Sharpsburg businessman and farmer\, to its designation as a “slave block” and its ties to events before and after the Civil War! Brugh’s presentation\, gathered from years of dedicated research\, includes fascinating primary source documents. \n\n\n\nCulture & Cocktails is generously sponsored by the James & Mary Schurz Foundation. C&C is held on the second Friday of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM.
