Upcoming Events

Join Washington County Historical Society as we explore the history of the C&O Canal! We invite participants to register for our walking, cycling, hiking, and sightseeing month-long event. As a host of the Smithsonian Institution’s traveling exhibit, Water/Ways, WCHS is excited to partner with local businesses and tourism outlets to encourage visitors and residents to get out and enjoy the Canal!

Participants will track their walking, cycling, and hiking miles by recording them on their own tracking log or by signing up for a free account with Alltrails. The AllTrails App can be dowloaded for free with any Android or Apple device. If the GPS locator is turned on, the C&O Canal Towpath Trail, Section #3 can be accessed and miles and steps can be recorded.

Registration can be completed online and all materials (activity schedules, coupons, maps, trail information, and t-shirts) can be picked up from 10am-2pm on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at the Miller House Museum. Additional details will be emailed to all registered participants as the event gets closer.

During the event, activities will take place along the Canal to encourage participants to enjoy the beauty surrounding this important waterway. Activities include: children’s activities, guided walking tours, painting workshop by the canal, and rides on the C&O Canal NHP canal boats.

All registered participants will be entered into a drawing to win these great prizes:
