As Commanding General of the United States Army, Ulysses S. Grant led the Union Army to victory in the American Civil War in 1865.  On Friday, June 9, join WCHS Board Member Bill Soulis as he gives his evaluation of 18th President Grant's generalship in an engaging format.  This month's cocktail is The Bourbon and Blood, a fresh twist on the classic Manhattan. Attention all Patsy Cline fans! Join us Friday, June 23 at 6:00 PM to enjoy an unforgettable night filled with music at the beautiful Miller House Garden! A legendary country singer, Patsy Cline has often been called one of the most influential vocalists of all time, and cover artist Liz Ruffner will perform your favorite classic Cline hits, including "Crazy," "I Fall To Pieces," and more. This popular concert sells out nearly every year, so get your tickets while they last! Don't miss your chance to witness an amazing tribute to one of music's all-time greatest stars. The event will have a cash bar, and guests are welcome to bring their own snacks and other food. We also encourage you to bring your own lawn chairs, as patio seating is limited. From those abandoned to the ones brought back to life, Washington County has a hidden treasure trove of historic schoolhouses waiting to be discovered! On Friday, August 11, join Henry Recker, a Smithsburg Middle School student, who will showcase Washington County’s historic schoolhouses. The talk will feature photographs taken by Henry and from the WCHS archives. This month’s drink is the Roaring Rob Roy, a cocktail for Scotch lovers and enjoyers. Clarissa Harlowe Barton was a hospital nurse during the Civil War, a teacher, and a patent clerk. Today she's best remebered as the nurse who founded the American Red Cross.  On Friday, September 8, join Assistant Secretary for the MD Dept. of Commerce Tom Riford and Sculptor Toby Mendez as they share exciting developments about the Clara Barton Memorial sculpture to be erected on the Hagerstown Cultural Trail near City Park. This month’s cocktail is the Red Cross, a red colored drink for the non-profit Barton founded. Doors open at 5:30 PM and light hors d' oeuvres will be served! On Friday, October 13, join this Halloween Culture & Cocktails as historians and spirit photographers Susan and Doug Stull present and complete a haunting demonstration! This month’s drink is the Sherry Cobbler, an American cocktail of sherry, sugar and citrus, shaken, served over ice and sipped through a straw. On Friday, November 10, join Master Gardener Denny Warrenfeltz of Roostervane Gardens as he shares festive holiday and winter decorating demonstrations of the late 18th century, including techniques to spruce up your hearth and home. Learn all about it in this exciting true crime tale of murder most foul!  On Friday, December 8, join WCHS Curator and Programs Manager Abigail Koontz as she shares a true crime tale from 1828, when Hagerstown’s sheriff, George Swearingen, became a murderer. This month’s cocktail is the Bloody Poinsettia, a refreshing and sparkling (and dare we say bloody good) drink that is perfect for the holiday season.
