The Musical Influence of Washington County
The WCHS is excited to share this documentary, “The Musical Influence of Washington County,” created by BISFA student, Ryan Franko. Read about Ryan Franko’s documentary here:
“The purpose of this documentary is to document and preserve the invaluable experiences and stories of influential figures in the music industry of our local community. Throughout this documentary, we have managed to document 3 different figures from who have made a lasting impression on Washington County. These individuals are Paul Beard, owner of Beard Guitars, who has been making guitars in the local area since 1985; Elizabeth Schulze, the Director and Conductor of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra; and Mike Lushbaugh, a saxophonist inducted into the Maryland Music Hall of Fame.
About me:
Hello my name is Ryan Franko, I have been playing music since the age of 5 where I started out playing classical guitar. I have grown my musical skills through regularly performing music gigs at many local wineries/breweries/restaurant venues. I also have been given the opportunity to expand my skills by currently attending Barbara Ingram School For the Arts here in Hagerstown, with a focus on classical guitar. I have also been involved in Scouting America since starting in Tiger Cubs way back in 2014. I have progressed through the ranks which brings me to today as I am working towards my Eagle Scout rank. This documentary was part of my Eagle Scout project to honor and solidify the musical contributions of these people in Washington County.
I would like to thank the following individuals who have helped me bring this project to completion:
Paul Beard, Mike Lushbaugh, Elizabeth Schulze, Bailey Kercheval, Jeff Taulton, Petr Skopec, BISFA Photography & Cinematography, Dr. Rob Hovermale – BISFA Principal, Kristen Green – Teacher, Liam Pullens, Alex Clingan, Jaliya Blackwood, Peyton Fitz, Washington County Historical Society, Maryland Symphony Orchestra, Beard Guitars, and Sloan School of Music”
