On Friday, May 9, join Joshua Nolen, NPS Ranger and Western MD District Supervisor of the C&O Canal, as he presents "The C&O Canal in Washington County." This talk focuses on the history of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal in Washington County, as well as the current efforts of the National Park Service at the C&O Canal National Historical Park in Williamsport. This month's cocktail is the Salty Dog, a tangy combination of grapefruit, vodka, and salt inspired by the Salty Dog Tavern near Maryland Heights, along the C&O Canal. Doors open at 5:30 PM and light hors d'oeuvres will be served! Culture & Cocktails 2025 has been made possible by the generous support of the James and Mary Schurz Foundation.
Join us on Saturday, May 17, for an exciting bus tour of three new architectural locations! This year's architecture bus tour will take you first to Valentia Farm & Mill Site outside Funkstown, built ca. 1790s. Then, we will stop for catered boxed lunches before heading to Williamsport's Springfield Farm, built ca. 1764 and 1879, for a tour led by Williamsport Mayor Bill Green. Finally, we will stop at Williamsport's Knights of Pythias Building, also called the Pythian Castle, along Conococheague Street, for a tour inside the early 20th century building. It will be an exciting day of new tour stops!
