Enjoy a fun free family workshop at the Miller House Museum!
What is a barn hex? These beautiful painted circles, featuring elaborate geometric designs and bright colors, are a staple of Pennsylvania Dutch culture. Each feature had an important meaning to the farmer who painted it onto their barn – whether it was meant to protect animals, ward off evil, or welcome people to their property.
Learn more about what these hex symbols meant and then get a chance to design and paint your own during this family workshop! Our workshops are open-house style, so you can drop by any time between 11-2.
This craft takes approximately 45 minutes to make. Each of our family workshops includes free admission to the Miller House Museum. Parental supervision of children is required.
Our Family Workshops have been made possible by the generous support of the CSX Corporation.
