Support the WCHS for Washington County Gives
May 9, 2023 @ 12:00 am – 12:00 pm

Welcome to the Washington County Historical Society and kinship Family Heritage Research Center!
The Washington County Historical Society was founded in 1911 and is headquartered at the Miller House Museum on West Washington Street in downtown Hagerstown. Visitors to the 1825 townhouse can view rotating exhibits, listen to fascinating lectures, and participate in free Family Workshops. The basement of the Miller House is the kinship Family Heritage Research Center one of Washington County’s “go-to” spots to learn more about the rich history of the area’s founding, industrial roots, and family ties. This year the money raised through our day of giving campaign will benefit the kinship library in areas of research, conservation, and more.
Available resources at kinship include:
Family History Files, Genealogical Manuscripts, Newspaper Archives, Hagerstown City Directories, Census Records, Church and Cemetery Records, Revolutionary and Civil War Records, Historic Photographs, Historic Maps, and the knowledge of our staff.
The genealogical library houses books, photographs, letters, diaries, maps, and various digital resources to assist visitors on their quest for ancestral information. Our genealogical researcher, Jean Conte, is available most Wednesdays to support research inquiries. Your contribution will go towards preserving and promoting these vital resources for generations to come.
Last year our art prizes were a hit, and this year we have more historic-inspired art and other prizes! Every hour from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM, your donation will enter you in a raffle for a special prize! Fulton Bank, previously Hagerstown Bank, has generously donated local artwork to the WCHS. Other prizes include Culture & Cocktails tickets, a Genealogy Consultation, Patsy Cline Cover Concert tickets, and more!
We will raffle off a different prize each hour! For every $10.00 in donations, you will receive one raffle ticket. A $50 donation allows you five tickets, a $500 donation allows you 50 raffle tickets, etc. (Note: you are under no obligation to take possession of the art and be assured that none of the art is from the WCHS collection.)
