Culture & Cocktails: Maryland’s Appalachian Highlands
August 12 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
On Friday August 12th, author and outdoorsman Tim Rowland will join us over Zoom to discuss his 2009 book, Maryland’s Appalachian Highlands: Massacres, Moonshine & Mountaineering. In his presentation, Tim will introduce the remarkable history of the mountains of Western Maryland, from the rocky relations of Native Americans and early settlers and the Battle of South Mountain to the faded elegance of Gilded Age resorts and the coming of the B&O Railroad.
The featured cocktail will be: The Black-Eyed Susan! Named for the state flower of Maryland, this drink is the perfect balance of sweet, sour, and spice.
Culture & Cocktails 2022 has been made possible by the generous support of the James and Mary Schurz Foundation.
